Meet The Faculty
Spectrum School of Massage Faculty
The heart of a great independent school is its faculty. Students and alumnae/i recognize that Spectrum’s instructors do more than teach – they offer support, encouragement and inspiration beyond the classroom. Every instructor draws from specialized fields of experience and is invested in supporting and educating students. The intimate atmosphere, full of congeniality, laughter and clear communication, allows each student to encounter a vast amount of knowledge and enhance his/her individual style as a competent Massage Therapist. Alumnae/i comment that it is obvious that the teachers love being part of Spectrum Center and its mission.
The owner/director, Julie Cavender, has designed the program to ensure the students receive a highly effective education and opportunity for personal growth. She infuses professionalism, passion for learning and appreciation for different learning styles into a loving, home-like atmosphere. Students and alumnae/remark that at Spectrum they are able to trust the process of being a student.
The WA State Board of Massage has commented:
“The administration and faculty of Spectrum provide a safe and supportive atmosphere that contributes to a positive learning experience for the students. The administration and/or faculty take great pride in the establishment and maintenance of this facility and should be commended.”

What year did you graduate from Spectrum (where applicable): 2018
What courses do you teach: Theory & Practice, Deep Tissue, Medical Records & Seated Chair
What makes you passionate about being a massage therapist: I love to help people. Meeting them exactly where they are and helping them to get to where they want to be. As a massage therapist we get to learn about the person, the body, and how to connect the two. Often, people focus on one or the other on their own. Through massage, we can unite the two and help people become centered and have an opportunity to enjoy life in the way they were meant to enjoy it.
Why do you love Spectrum?: Spectrum not only showed me my true potential, they also held me accountable to that potential to ensure that I would attain it and do something great with it. Spectrum cares deeply about each student and works endlessly to ensure that they not only fulfill their dreams but carry on the Spectrum name with pride and honor. I was so lucky to have found Spectrum. It changed my life in so many ways, and all of it for the better.
What else would you like to share to help folks get to know you better: I’m a mother of 2, passionate about living life by leading through example. I love to help people, but in order to help others, I work hard to make sure that I also take the time to care for myself. Leading by example inside my home and in my practice is a boundary that I clearly set and help others to learn that it is okay to work on yourself. I’m currently in school to further enhance my practice- I’m pursing my Bachelors in Nursing with an added focus on Behavioral Health. I love animals, and work hard to raise money for animal shelters in WA state. I am born and raised in WA and love to hike, camp, kayak, and kickbox. Being active helps me to achieve my goals as a massage therapist.
